Who Will be the Top Goalscorer of Euro 2016?

With all due respect to all positions in the world of soccer, the one that excites the fans the most is the striker. Clinical, attractive and prolific strikers score goals and bring the crowd to its feet. There is no better moment for them then scoring for the national team on an international event, such as World cup or European championship. This years European championship is the fifteenth edition of the tournament and we might actually see the biggest number of goals scored in a single EURO. Why is that? Because there is a bigger number of games, although we don’t expect Michel Platini’s record from 1984 EURO of nine goals to be broken.

With their World cup win still pretty fresh, Germany are aiming for their first European championship win since 1996. With the absence of their talisman striker Miroslav Klose, the replacements in the form of Podolski, Gomez and Gotze don’t seem viable for great things. That is why the bookies and the soccer experts have put their hopes in Thomas Müller, who has proven in the past that he is capable of delivering at the highest level. Although Müller has incredible ten goals at the World cup tournaments, he is surprisingly yet to score at an European championship.  Nine goals from the qualifications certainly look promising and we have no doubt about his breaking the deadlock at EURO 2016.

With the French being tipped as hot favorites for the upcoming tournament, they need a firm striker if they are to seriously compete for the crown of Europe.  Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is out of the tournament due to scandal, so the odds are in favor of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann being the top goalscorer of Euro 2016. The 25-year old had a great season with Atletico Madrid, but also proved to be a great alternative for Benzema, as he netted 22 goals in the La Liga. Griezmann certainly is playing in his best years, hence the chance of him claiming the top scorer award.

Cristiano Ronaldo has so far managed to disappoint at big national tournaments and the EURO 2016 might be his last shot to change that. Real Madrid striker is in great form but he is constantly failing to deliver for Portugal. In a relatively solid group with Austria, Iceland and Hungary, Ronaldo has a chance to score highest number of goals possible and lead Portugal. Other striker options are not extremely confident, proving that Ronaldo will probably get support from all of his teammates to score.
